Not every puncture can be repaired — and we'll tell you honestly
BS AU 159 sets out exactly which punctures are safe to repair: within the tyre's central repairable zone, up to a limited size. A puncture in the shoulder or sidewall, or one that's too large, means the tyre needs replacing — repairing it wouldn't be safe, and we won't pretend otherwise.

What's the legal minimum tread depth?+
The UK legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, around its full circumference. Most manufacturers and safety bodies recommend replacing at 3mm, since stopping distances in the wet increase noticeably below that.
Can every puncture be repaired?+
No — only punctures within the tyre's central repairable zone, up to a limited size, can be safely repaired to BS AU 159 (the British Standard for tyre repairs). A puncture in the shoulder or sidewall, or one that's too large, means the tyre needs replacing, not repairing. We'll always tell you honestly which applies to your tyre.
What's tyre balancing and do I need it?+
Balancing corrects small weight differences around a wheel and tyre so it spins smoothly at speed — an unbalanced wheel can cause vibration through the steering wheel or seat, especially on motorways. We balance every new tyre we fit as standard.
Should I get an alignment check when I replace tyres?+
It's a good idea — misaligned wheels cause uneven tyre wear, so fitting new tyres without checking alignment can mean the new tyres wear unevenly too. See our wheel alignment page for details.
What is TPMS and why does it matter?+
TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) is required on all cars sold new since 2014 — it warns you if a tyre's pressure drops. TPMS sensors can be damaged during tyre changes if not handled correctly, so we check and reset them as part of any tyre fitting.
